Pros and Cons of Cloud Backup

cloud-computing-kitchen-sinkCloud computing, or Cloud storage, is evolving and becoming more and more popular. Companies of all shapes and sizes, as well as consumers are beginning to use this technology. There are many advantages to using the Cloud, but with any piece of technology there are also disadvantages. If you are deciding whether or not the Cloud storage system is right for you, read this post and I will talk about the pros and cons of the Cloud. Hopefully by the end, you will be closer to making your decision.

Pros

  • Cost Efficient – Cloud storage is probably the most cost efficient method to use, maintain and upgrade. Many softwares that are on used on your desktop can cost companies a lot of money and connecting with other users can be even more expensive. The cloud is available much cheaper and sometimes even free.
  • Tons of Storage Available – You do not have to worry about running out of storage space with the cloud. It almost has unlimited storage space, so most likely it will be a step up from what you are currently using.
  • Backup and Recovery – As a data recovery company, Datatech Labs always encourages people to back up their information. With the cloud, it makes it much easier to backup and restore in case any of that data is lost remotely.
  • Automatic Software Integration – Software integration usually happens automatically on the cloud. This means you do not have to make additional efforts to integrate applications. The cloud also allows you to customize your options with ease.
  • Easy Access to Information – My favorite part about the cloud is the ease of access. Because they are usually online, you can access the information anywhere there is an Internet connection. It is also a great way of sharing files between coworkers. On the cloud, the whole company can have access to important files.

Cons

  • Technical Issues – Sometimes the cloud can have technical issues. Just make sure you know that this form of storage is prone to outages and other issues. Even the best providers can run into problems. Also, if you do have have an Internet connection or are having trouble with it, the cloud will not be accessible until you get Internet back.
  • Security Issues – If you have classified information, I would not recommend putting it on the cloud. You can surrender this information the a third-party cloud service provider. This could put your company at risk if you are giving away classified information. I do not recommend putting credit card or personal information on the cloud.
  • Vulnerable to Attacks – In addition to security issues, you need to be careful of hackers and threats from the outside. The Internet is not completely secure, so make sure you are careful with your data and its sensitivity.

Cloud storage is a great way to share information between coworkers and a very inexpensive way to store data, but be aware of the dangers that may come with it. If you have any questions about data storage or recovery, call Datatech LAbs at 888-288-DATA today!
